October 2011 (St. Helena, CA) Here come the juiciest Blood Orange vodkas you’ve ever tasted. This year’s Blood Oranges set a new record as the brightest color extraction ever. That’s a good sign.

Since 1998, Master Distiller Marko Karakasevic bottles in the fall the fresh whole fruit vodkas that he starts many months earlier. He was the first artisan distiller to raise the bar with ASET extraction methods and some of California’s freshest juiciest fruit. Every restaurant and shop says: “it tastes just like fresh fruit’. One magazine said it tasted even better.

Back in the mid 90’s, Marko saw an eye popping number of artificial tasting cocktails served; he knew he could make a better vodka. He convinced his father, a 12th generation European winemaker/master distiller, that artisan quality vodka was a niche they could create and fill. It launched the artisan vodka boom.

Every year, when Marko gets the call that the fruit is ripe, he rents a truck for the ‘fruit marathon’ and drives the 6 hour trip to the California groves. Perfect whole Blood Oranges and Meyer Lemons are hand-picked and loaded into bins marked "Charbay". Within 6 hours he arrives at the family’s distillery in Northern California and the extraction begins.

Thirteen years later, here comes the newest harvest.

Charbay Winery & Distillery is owned and operated by Miles & Susan Karakasevic, their son Marko and his family. Miles, a Grand Master Distiller, is the 12th generation in his family to carry on the artisan skills of fermenting and distilling. His son, Marko, earned Master Distiller status after apprenticing under his father fir 26 years. The family has distilled brandy, grappa, whiskey, rum, and Tequila. Marko is carving a niche in the whiskey world with his distilling style.
